About House & Provision

House & Provision is a preparedness resource for ordinary households, and a small store that supports it.

Preparedness doesn't need to become a lifestyle or an identity. A household can prepare for the disruptions that actually happen (a power outage that runs long, a storm with a day's warning, a week without a service everyone depends on) without becoming anything in particular. We focus on practical planning, useful information, household organization, and realistic readiness.

No fear. No politics. No extreme scenarios required.

What's here

Prepare is the guided part: pick a situation or a part of your household, and a pathway walks through what usually happens, what matters most, what to have on hand, and what to do before, during, and after.

Plan is free tools: a self-assessment, checklists, worksheets, and four starter pages that put your household on paper.

Stories are fiction about realistic disruptions, written to be enjoyed, each ending with what the household did well, what they overlooked, and the sources behind it.

The shop sells printed and fillable versions of what the site teaches. Nothing in it is required to prepare.

How we handle facts

Preparedness guidance on this site is based on publicly available sources, including Ready.gov, FEMA, the American Red Cross, the National Weather Service, and the CDC where appropriate. Each pathway lists what it was reviewed against, and when. We don't give medical, legal, or electrical advice; those questions belong to your pharmacist, a lawyer, a licensed electrician, and your utility. During an emergency, instructions from local officials come first.

The eight household basics

Every pathway, checklist, and tool on the site is organized around the same eight basics.

Water Food Light and power Warmth and cooling Information and communication Health and first aid Documents and cash People, pets, and the plan

Start with your household, not with a hazard.

Twenty minutes on a normal weekday is enough to find the one thing worth fixing first.

House Notes

A short note before each season turns: what to check before the first freeze, before storm season, before the summer heat. New stories and checklists when they're ready. Never a sales blast.
